Layout Design

My two-year writing and editing program included courses in layout design and web design. I loved this part of the program. Having enjoyed a 15-year background in creating 3D elements for theatre and film, layout design was its 2D equivalent. Below are a few examples of my designs:

This first one comes from my eight-page magazine mock up. The concept behind this magazine was that it would incorporate elements from any creative discipline such as film, visual art and books. I worked with a professional photographer for the "comic strip" elements and for the front and back covers (illustrated below). I also did some of my own photography and created the layout using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.

The next photo shows my concept for the invitation to my portfolio show which followed the successful completion of the two-year writing and editing program. I created the raw image using pencil shavings and an eraser. I then Photoshoped the colour elements on the pencil and shavings and finally created the layout and text in InDesign. My design was one of three chosen in the invitation contest.

The last example is of signage I created for my booth at the portfolio show.
